Item of Interest

In April of 2002, Walt was port of a Rotary team that went to Vietnam to dedicate a school which had been built by clubs in Pennsylvania.  They were also part of a group that is actively seeking to bring Rotary to Vietnam.

In 1992, Walt was part of a group of Rotarians who went to Oaxaca, Mexico where they installed a clean water system in the remote mountain village of Barranca Honda.

In 1993 word reached the Rotary Club of Bend that a cholera epidemic had raced through the mountains above Oaxaca, ravaging many of the villages and killing many of the inhabitants. Of particular gratification to the Bend Rotarians was the fact that not a single death from the epidemic occurred in any of the villages that had potable water systems installed by  Rotary . . . including Barranca Honda.

Walt has been an Academy instructor since the first year and was also a member of the first graduating class.
